My thoughts: This is the first Sadie Hoffmiller culinary mystery. I hadn’t heard of this series until a publicist contacted me wanting to know if I would read and review English Trifle – the second in the series. Well, I found myself in a similar predicament as I was with the Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft mysteries – I can’t start a series in the middle. So, I went ahead and purchased the first book. Well, I was glad I did – I thoroughly enjoyed this book (as well as the second one – review to come!).
In this first book, we are introduced to Sadie Hoffmiller, neighborhood resident baker/cook and busybody. It is a light, fun read filled with many intriguing elements: a mystery, humor and some really yummy recipes. There are many interesting twists that keep the reader in suspense right until the end. We meet a cast of characters that are all interesting and who will hopefully make appearances in future books. Sadie in particular is delightful and at times you find yourself laughing out loud at her antics and thought processes. I am definitely going to try making Sadie’s Perfect Brownies – they sound amazing! This is a series that I will definitely be following.
