Book Tour, Giveaway and Review: Tuesday Tells It Slant by Holly Christine (GIVEAWAY CLOSED)

First line: Claudia, Isn’t it funny how we sometimes forget the things we thought we’d never lose?

From the back cover: Tuesday Morning has always been a little different. She’s kept a diary since 1989 and while researching for her English Lit thesis in 2003 on Emily Dickinson’s transcendental tendencies, finds a poem that will change her life. Haunted by a past that she considers less than desirable, Tuesday recreates her history with the stroke of a pen. Page by page, year by year, she rewrites her painful memories as she has always fantasized. Bullied and discontented with her body before, she now becomes popular, thin, and desired.

Throughout this cleansing process, she consciously decides what to keep and what to toss. She scans her old diary entries for words that trigger painful and unpleasant thoughts: Fat Tuesday (her nickname in high school), Katie (her childhood neighbor turned bully), Writer (her dream of becoming) and Monday (her identical twin sister).

Tuesday finds herself in an odd place six years later, unknowingly spending each day of her life as someone that she was never meant to become. With each breath of her new life, Tuesday obliviously loses more of herself. When a special person of her past returns to her present, Tuesday is forced to choose between the life that she had once desired and her true self.

We all have deep secrets and skeletons in our closets. Imagine having the ability to not only change the past, but also completely alter the present and future. How far will Tuesday go to erase her past? And how much of herself will she lose in the process?

My thoughts: I found this to be an interesting read. At first, I will admit, I was a bit confused by all the jumping around, but after each story line got going, I was able to handle the jumping back and forth with ease and found it added to the overall enjoyment of the story. The book is a lesson in dealing with the reality of life when it happens. I loved the concept of changing the present by re-writing history using diary entries – if only that could happen in real life! There are some completely unexpected twists and turns to the story that keep you turning the pages, wondering what is going to happen next. The writing was great, with excellent descriptions and humorous lines scattered throughout. I especially enjoyed the act of revenge involving spoiled milk! This is the first book I have read by Holly Christine and I will now be checking out her other books.

About the author: Holly Christine was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1981. Though she started to craft stories at the age of six, it wasn’t until college that she began to guide her stories into written form. She completed her first novel in 2004, which was read by one dear friend before making its way into the bedroom nightstand. She currently resides in Pittsburgh and is always working on something new.

I would change a part of my past. Even though I'm barely 15 there is so many things that were different. The fact is that I just have to live with the decisions I made.

      Extra entry:

I would like to think if I could I would rewrite part of my past but then again I think that everything we go through helps us make who we are today, and I personally am quite happy with the person I have become in life. Of course, if I knew this change would only make me and things better than I might. Tough question but a great one!!
