Today’s question:How did you get into reading? When and how/why did you really become “a reader”?
I don’t remember at what age I actually learned to read, but I can always remember having books around me. My father was a teacher when we were younger and I always remember him bringing home books to read to us – sometimes even at the dinner table. I also remember that we always got books for our report cards, at Christmas, for our birthdays, and even on Valentine’s Day and Halloween. My parents were excellent models for us – always reading when they had some down time.
As I got more into reading myself in elementary school, I can remember devouring the Bobbsey Twins series, the Nancy Drew series, the Trixie Belden series, the witch stories by Ruth Chew, and then finding Anne of Green Gables – how I loved that series! I also remember participating in the summer library reading program each year. I vividly remember one year, my one brother and I had a race to see how many books we could read. We spent the whole summer reading at every chance we got – sitting outside under the tree, reading during lunch, reading after dinner on the porch – and it paid off – we each read over 100 books that summer.
Now, whenever I have to buy baby gifts or presents for my nieces/nephews, I always include a book or two…I want to help instill a love of reading in them and every little bit helps!

I was an early reader – according to my Mom!
I was a serious reader through fifth grade or so.
Middle school and high school were not big reading years for me. I was so busy with the required reading for school, and I hated reading while trying to underline things to review. I wanted to make sure I got 100% on our quizzes so I was always reading with a critical eye – would this be a quiz question?
College kept me way too busy with my music major stuff to do much reading for pleasure.
It's since college graduation that I finally had time to read for pure joy – and I'm loving every minute of it! 🙂
I always enjoyed reading, every since my brain processed how to make words and than I was amazed to learn to read those words in sentences. My eight year old granddaughter is a reader also, and I send her a book almost every month. If I don't she writes me a letter telling me she missed her present. LOL..
another good idea is about the flower, it gives the good feeling via visual, smell, civilized manners etcs. not just the boy friend or girl friend, parents, teacher, festival, ancestors, event and even ceremony are one of the best decors too.
