My thoughts: I always look forward to the summer because it means a new James Patterson stand-alone book is usually released. I definitely wasn’t disappointed with this summer’s book. Now You See Her shows us how one small action can have a huge ripple effect in our life and the lives of those around us.
Nina Bloom does not want her daughter to know about her past – or anyone else for that matter. Jeanine goes on Spring Break to Key West in 1992 and runs into some real legal difficulties. She is saved by a very attractive policeman and this sets the stage for all the adventure and deceit in the book. It is good versus evil throughout. Eventually Jeanine becomes Nina and ends up in New York City. After living virtually a lie for so many years, she is still running. Then a man dies and she has to decide if she wants to tell the truth or not. From New York City to Key West and back, this fast-paced story has you cheering for Nina/Jeanine right from the beginning.
Now You See Her is an exciting book with the usual short chapters we’ve come to love and expect from James Patterson. It also builds up to an explosive ending, and is filled with all the elements that make a thriller good: mystery, suspense, criminal activity and revelations about characters that you’d never guess. While I know this is a stand-alone book, I can’t help but hope James Patterson revisits the character of Nina in another story.
