Book Beginnings Friday: The Queen’s Pleasure

Please join Rose City Reader
every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are
reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence,
impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.  Please
remember to include the title of the book and the author.

I’m reading The Queen’s Pleasure by Brandy Purdy:

I told Kat to fetch a chair and be my dragon, to sit outside my bedchamber door and guard my lair after I was gone.

I really enjoy reading historical fiction and especially love reading about anything related to Elizabeth I. This book looks at the romance between Robert Dudley and Elizabeth I, primarily through the eyes of Amy Dudley, Robert’s wife.

I’m participating in a blog tour for The Queen’s Pleasure. My review will be up on May 29 and then I’ll be doing a Q&A with Brandy Purdy and giveaway on June 1.

Do you enjoy reading historical fiction? Do you have any favorite historical fiction authors or characters you like reading?

I used to read more historical fiction, but then moved away from it, trying other genres. Recently, I have returned when I received review copies of a new historical series, The Muses of Mayfair.

Thanks for sharing…and here's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST

I love reading historical fiction and I too have a thing for reading books set during Queen Elizabeth I reign. I'll definitely be back for the review and contest.

I have to say I mostly read books during the Tudor period myself.

I am a huge historical fiction reader. I took a few years off of reading what I call royal HF, but have been slowly making my way back.

I tend to gravitate towards the Tudor period, but have recently started reading some books from earlier time periods.

I enjoy historical fiction, too. I love Lisa See's work, in particular.

Sounds very interesting! I've gotten re-interested in historical fiction since reading Wolf Hall and watching The Tudors.

Thanks for participating in Book Beginnings!

I haven't seen the show, but that's my favorite time period.

I'm not a big historical fiction fan, but this sounds interesting: a story is always interesting when it has a dragon in it!

Thanks for visiting via the Book Beginnings meme!

This was a good book – a different twist set during the reign of Elizabeth I.
