Virtual Book Tour & Review: Attorney-Client Privilege by Pamela Samuels Young

Attorney-Client Privilege by Pamela Samuels Young

Goldman House Publishing

June 2012

Format: Paperback, 396 pages

First line: “Girlfriend, you need to relax.”

From the back cover: A brutal murder, missing documents and an unscrupulous opposing counsel lead attorney Vernetta Henderson on a quest for justice – and ultimately – revenge.

Vernetta goes after a corporation with a long history of discriminating against women. While Vernetta simply wants justice for her clients, the corporation’s hired gun wants to win…and she doesn’t care how.

On the home front, Vernetta’s infamous sidekick, Special, has finally found true love. But is the price more than she’s willing to pay?

My thoughts: This is the 4th book in Pamela Samuels Young’s Vernetta Henderson series. I’ve read the third book in the series, Murder on the Down Low, and also Buying Time, which is a stand-alone. I’ve come to enjoy PSY’s writing and she definitely knows how to create suspense and craft a good mystery!

In Attorney-Client Privilege, Vernetta  takes on a case involving a class-action lawsuit against a big department store chain accused of discrimination in the workplace. When one of her clients suddenly dies, things start to go from bad to worse. Along with the client’s death, the documents that would break the case wide open appear to go missing – documents Vernetta has never even seen. And on top of all this, Vernetta is up against her worst nightmare in the courtroom. Opposing counsel is none other than Girlie Cortez, a lawyer that seems to have no scruples when it comes to winning a case.

As with all the books I’ve read by Pamela Samuels Young, this is one legal suspense tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat until you get to the end. There are twists and turns that keep you on your toes and the short chapters have you racing to finish. The characters are well developed and you either love them or hate them. I especially love the scenes with Vernetta’s pal, Speical – she seems to have no fear at times and believes in going after what’s right.

I enjoy this series and really need to go back and read the first two, hopefully before the next book comes out!

I loved her "Buying Time" and just bought "Murder on the DownLow", somehow I missed two of them! I am looking to catching up. She is one of my most favorite mystery writers.
