Book Beginnings Friday: Home to Big Stone Gap

Please join Rose City Reader
every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are
reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence,
impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.  Please
remember to include the title of the book and the author.

I’m reading Home to Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani:

As the wind blows through out bedroom window, it sounds like a whistling teakettle. As I wake, for a split second, I forget where I am. As soon as I see out suitcases piled next to the closet door, in the exact place where we dropped them, I remember. Etta’s wedding, though it was just one week ago, already seems like a faraway dream.

Adriana Trigiani is one of my favorite authors and this is the 4th and final book in her Big Stone Gap series. One of the things I love about her is that her writing is so descriptive. Have you read anything by her? If so, what was your favorite?

You definitely have to try her – she has some good stand-alones too. My favorite is The Shoemaker's Wife – phenomenal story!!!
