This blog hop is hosted by Amy at Passages to the Past
This is the first time I am participating in a blog hop and I’m quite excited. I love reading historical fiction and have definitely found my niche – I adore anything Tudor related, but I’ve also become quite enamored with Russian historical fiction, particularly anything to do with Catherine the Great, so my giveaway is for a paperback copy of The Winter Palace by Eva Stachniak.
Besides my giveaway, there are many other blogs participating, each with their own giveaway (see below for list of participating blogs). And there are also some grand prizes:
- $25 Amazon or Barnes & Noble Gift Card
- 4 Prize package(s) of historical novels – to see list of books, click here
Giveaway Information (CLOSED):
I will be giving away one copy of The Winter Palace.
Rules:
- Open to US only
- Must include email address to enter
*Mandatory entry – leave a comment telling me your all-time favorite historical fiction novel. (I’m always looking for reading suggestions!)
*Extra entry – follow my blog and leave a second comment telling me that you do.
GIVEAWAY ENDS 11:59pm EST, DECEMBER 17, 2012.
The winner will be emailed on December 18th.
Good Luck!!!

My favorite historical fiction book won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1928: Kristin Lavransdattir, a trilogy by Sigrid Undset. Set in medieval Norway, it is a story of love, betrayal and forgiveness that you will never forget.
Please enter me in your giveaway! Thank you.

My favorite historical fiction is a manga called Sakuran, which is about a courtesan in 18th century Edo. It was turned into a film, which is supposed to be gorgeous (though I've yet to watch it)

All-time favorite is really a hard decision but the favorites that come immediately to mind are Diana Gabaldon's Outlander, Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth and MM Kaye's The Far Pavillions and Shadow of the Moon.

That is SUCH a hard question for me because historical fiction is my all time favorite genre! So, the historical novel that first got me hooked is The Other Boleyn Girl. Not necessarily my all time favorite but definitely one of the top ones and the one that gave me my addiction :). Thanks for the giveaway!

What a wonderful giveaway! My favorite historical fiction — it's so hard to choose! — is probably either Here Be Dragons by Sharon Kay Penman or Legacy (about Elizabeth I; I don't remember the author's name.
This is like asking me to name my favorite child. If I have to choose just one I'll say it's Queen Hereafter by Susan Fraser King. That was hard, LOL! Now my brain is screaming to go back and put something else because there are so many screaming to be first. Penman, Weir, O'brien…..sighhhhh.

Thank you so much for the chance in the giveaway.
So hard to choose! I think I would have to say Cleopatra by Margaret George. Such an astounding book, and my favorite of hers.

Oh gosh I love Girl with a Pearl Earring , Gone with the Wind and The Other Boleyn Girl 🙂

All-time, I'll have to go with The Count of Monte Cristo. One of the first ones I ever read, it made a big impression on me way back then. Thanks.
…and my email: carlscott(at)prodigy(dot)net(dot)mx, thought I forgot didn't you? ;^)
So glad to find you — this is a great perk of the blog hop! One of my all-time favs is The Witch of Blackbird Pond — a YA classic — but it might be tied with Sigrid Undset's Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy — amazing books — and a trilogy back before trilogies became hot! 😉 Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite historical changes all the time it seems, but I always tend to go back to Jennifer Donnelly's "A Northern Light." Not as popular as Revolution, but I adore it to this day!

As for my all time favorite, it has to be the Betsy-Tacy series. Yes, it is a children's (or young adult) series, but I still love rereading them.

One of my favorite historical fiction novels is actually an entire series by Philippa Gregory (and it's not her royalty books!). Wideacre is disturbing, compelling, and won't leave you for a while.

How can I choose just one? One of my favorites is The Song of Troy by Colleen McCullough. Ms McCullough rarely disappoints. I like to read about ancient times and late antiquity, but have been branching out lately to American expansion and non-fiction. Read an excellent biography of Catherine the Great and would like to check out the novel. Thanks for the giveaway! flj52452 [at] yahoo [dot] com

I have enjoyed a great many historical novels. I have to go back to the first one I read as an assignment in American History in high school, LYDIA BAILEY by Kenneth Roberts. It was fascinating and opened a world to me. I really need to reread it and see if it has the same impact.
