The spiciest, sauciest, most rib-sticking Plum yet.

Recipe for disaster: Celebrity chef Stanley Chipolte comes to Trenton in a barbecue cookoff and loses his head – literally.

Throw in some spice: Bail bonds office worker Lula is witness to the crime, and the only one she’ll talk to is Trenton cop Joe Morelli.

Pump up the heat:
Chipotle’s sponsor is offering a million-dollar reward to anyone who
can provide information leading to the capture of the killers.

Stir the pot: Lula recruits bounty hunter Stephanie Plum to help find he killer and collect the moolah.

Add a secret ingredient: Stephanie Plum’s Grandma Mazur. Enough said.

Bring to a boil:
Stephanie Plum is working overtime tracking felons for the bonds office
at night and snooping for security expert Carlos Manoso, aka Ranger,
during the day. Can Stephanie hunt down two killers, a traitor, and five
skips, keep her grandmother out of the sauce, and solve Ranger’s
problems and not jump his bones?

Warning: Habenero hot. So good you’ll want seconds.

My thoughts: I am having so much fun listening to these Stephanie Plum books on audio – they are so funny that I constantly find myself laughing out loud.

I’ve said before that Lula is one of my favorite characters and she’s got a big part in this story. She ends up witnessing a murder and decides that she is going to catch the bad guys by stepping in for the deceased in a cook-off. The only problem is that she really doesn’t cook, so she enlists the help of Grandma Mazur – what a combination!!! I don’t know who’s crazier Lula or Grandma Mazur.

Then there’s the guy that Lula sometimes dates – a hot firefighter who happens to enjoy dressing in women’s clothes in his downtime. Really?!? I kid you not, and Lula is definitely not above using this to her advantage when things get a little messy at Stephanie’s apartment…did I mention he’s also a neatfreak?

If ever I wanted a book to have pictures, it would be this one. Between the cross-dressing firefighter to Lula walking around in a Kevlar vest and helmet so she doesn’t get shot by the murderers to Stephanie walking around the barbeque cook-off in a hot-dog costume, I don’t think the pictures in my mind even begin to do it justice.

The only disappointment in this installment is that there’s not too much going on in the romance department. Stephanie and Morelli are on a break and while there’s some flirting going on with Ranger, nothing comes of it. Will this ever be solved? I really want it to, but I’m not sure who I want to see her with…

Have you ever read or listened to a book and wished there were pictures included just so you could see what was in the author’s mind when they were writing a scene?

Audio Thoughts:
Lorelei King has really mastered these voices. It’s amazing that book after book, she’s able to maintain the same voice for each of the normal characters and yet still find new voices for the new characters. I don’t know how she does it but she does it very well!
