An alpha hero’s attraction to the one woman he can’t have could
draw him into a killer’s snare in the sizzling new novel from New York
Times bestselling author Lori Foster.
Charismatic bar owner Rowdy Yates isn’t the kind of man
women say no to. So when he approaches waitress Avery Mullins, he fully
expects to get her number. However, the elusive beauty has her reasons
for keeping her distance-including a past that might come back to haunt
them both.Avery spends her nights working for tips…and trying
to forget the secret Rowdy is determined to unearth. But when history
threatens to repeat itself, Avery grows to rely on Rowdy’s protective
presence. As the sparks between them ignite, she will be forced to
choose between the security she’s finally found…and the passion she’s
always wanted.
My thoughts: This is the 3rd book in Lori Foster’s Love Undercover series and I’ve been waiting for this story since the series began! Having met both Rowdy and Avery in Run the Risk, I just knew they needed their own stories to be told and that’s what we have here.
Since first meeting Rowdy, I’ve felt there’s more to him than we had been told so far and in this book, we find out just what makes him who he is. And boy oh boy, you just fall even more in love with him as things are revealed. Add Avery’s story into the mix and it’s quite the combination. Neither can seem to deny the growing attraction between them, but both come with quite the baggage. Will they be able to let go of their insecurities to see that what’s between them can be good? I loved watching these two dance around each other almost as much as I did when they finally gave in to their feelings…it’s steamy, hot and romantic!!!
What I like about this series is that we get to see those characters we’ve already come to love – Pepper, Logan, Alice and Reece all make appearances in the book, as does Dash. And, we are even meet a few new characters, including Cannon, who seems to show up at the right times and ends up working at Rowdy’s bar. As I was finished this book, I felt as though there’s a lot more to Cannon than we’ve been told and I’m happy to say that he will be getting his own book in a new series – see the Author Q&A with Lori Foster below!
This series is quite fun. It’s filled with some romance, but also tends to have some suspense and action involved. Each book has been better than the last and I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series – Dash’s story. I can’t wait to find out about his backstory…plus I have a hunch I might know who he gets involved with and I want to see if my deductive reasoning is right!
Books in this series:
- Run the Risk
- Bare It All
- Getting Rowdy
- Dash of Peril – due out April 2014
Author Q&A
Lori Foster took some time to answer the following questions…enjoy!!!
Where did the idea for the Getting Rowdy storyline come from?
I never really have an answer for that. For me, I sit down to write and things happen. I’m usually as surprised as readers are with how things work out. For Rowdy, I knew Pepper (heroine from Run the Risk) has a brother. When he showed up, I realized who he was and what he wanted…he showed me his background at the same time he showed it to you – to all of my readers. In one scene, he walked into a bar – and there was Avery. I didn’t plan her, didn’t know she’d be there, but boy, Rowdy sure took notice. I know that makes me sound nuts, but that’s how the writing process goes for me! I like to be surprised.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher! I have great respect for motivated, caring, inspiring teachers who positively impact children’s lives. But as it turns out, while I love kids, I’m terrible when trying to teach anything. It’s a good thing I’m a writer instead.
Where/when do you best like to write?
I prefer my desk at the lake house and I write from the morning, say around 10 am (after I’ve finished emails and online stuff) until 5 or 6 pm. When I’m under a close deadline that expands with me starting earlier and going later in the day.
I’m only at the lake house during mild/warm weather though, and I like my office space at home too. At the lake house, my desk overlooks the lake, and at home my desk faces French doors that lead to the pond. Water inspires me!
What’s on your nightstand right now?
Clock, lamp, decorative tissue box, plug for my iPad, a pair of eye glasses (I have several around the house) and Crash Into You by Katie McGarry. It’s *amazing.* I’d have finished reading it by now, except we just welcomed our 3rd grandson into the world and that occupied me for a few days.
What are you working on next?
I just finished Dash’s story. Dash is the brother of the hero from the first book, Run the Risk. I think readers will be surprised with Dash now that it’s his turn to reveal his soul. I know I was surprised! I kept thinking, Dash, you devil! LOL
And now I’m ready to get started on Cannon’s book. Cannon (You met him in Getting Rowdy) will actually start in the first book of a new series set for September 2014. I really enjoyed him in Getting Rowdy, and he has a larger role in Dash’s book, Dash of Peril (April 2014) so I hope readers like him as much as I do!
