This is the second time I’ve joined the #BookBlogWalkers group that Felicia @ The Geeky Bloggers Book Blog has put together but this time around I’m going to post weekly check-ins. Part of staying motivated in a fitness regiment is writing it down, so I’m going to use these posts as a diary of sorts.
With the cold winter we’ve been having here in the Northeast, getting out of the house has been a chore, so I’m so thankful that Felicia introduced me to the Leslie Sansone walking DVDs. I own a few of them and love that I can get those miles in from the comfort of my own home. Of course, having 2 dogs, I still have to go outside, but those are quick walks for now.
Here’s how the first few days of the month went:
Jan 1: 2 miles (did 2 mile classic walk from 4 Mile Power Walk DVD)
Jan 2: 2 miles (did 2 mile classic walk from 4 Mile Power Walk DVD)
Jan 3: 2 miles (did 2 mile power express from 4 Mile Power Walk DVD)
I hope to get back to the gym next week to at least walk on the treadmill a few days – I’m training to walk in my first 1/2 marathon (in March) and need to work on speed and get in some distance walks, too. But, I do like mixing up the treadmill walks with the DVD walks as they use different muscles.
How did your first week go?
Kristin
The weather is really against your walking outside at present but having a coupe of alternatives is good. Something I need to think of for my winter months.
Yes, the dvd's have been great!
I'm doing this too and posting daily updates on Facebook. Go us 🙂 I missed Day 2 due to the crappy weather and work, but I rocked out days 1 and 3 and hope to keep going strong.
I love that so many of us are doing this!
I love Leslie's walking dvds too. With the bitter cold and snowfall we've been having, I need to get mine out!
It's such a good alternative when it's too cold to get outdoors!
I've never heard of a walking DVD before but I'm intrigued! I'm ready to start getting back into shape after baby and I know walking is such a great workout. I'll have to see if I can find one of these videos.
You can get them from her website, on amazon or even at Walmart. I love them and I bet even your toddler would have fun 'walking' with you while you do them.
Looks like you're off to a good start. I'd kind of like to do a marathon someday, but I'm afraid that I'm not in shape enough. Good luck getting back to the gym this week – I hope the weather doesn't make it too rough on you!
Thanks! My suggestion to you is start small and work your way up – maybe start with a 5k and see how you do with that…and then build up to the bigger distances. Last year I did a 3-day 50 mile walk…that was intense but there was no time restriction. The 1/2 marathon has a time restriction on it so you need to be able to walk at a rather fast pace.
I get back into the gym tomorrow for this. I think it's fun and gets me motivated. You really have done a great job so far!
Angie
Yes – the group definitely motivates you to get moving and I love it!!!
So happy to be joining in this time … I'm finding it tough to get motivated in our heatwave so all the more reason to cheer each other on. Good job Kristin :))
