Before you get down on bended knee…
…you should be pretty darn sure the answer will be yes. For ten
years, Connor O’Rourke has been waiting for Jessica Dunn to take their
on-again, off-again relationship public, and he thinks the time has
come. His restaurant is thriving, she’s got her dream job at Blue Heron
Vineyard—it’s the perfect time to get married. When he pops the
question, however, her answer is a fond but firm no. If it ain’t broke,
why fix it? Jess has her hands full with her younger brother, who’s now
living with her full-time, and a great career after years of
waitressing. What she and Connor have is perfect: friends with
an excellent benefits package. Besides, with her difficult past (and
reputation), she’s positive married life isn’t for her.But this
time, Connor says it’s all or nothing. If she doesn’t want to marry him,
he’ll find someone who does. Easier said than done, given that he’s
never loved anyone but her. And maybe Jessica isn’t quite as sure as she
thinks…
My thoughts: This is the 5th (and final?) book in Kristan Higgins’ Blue Heron series and I just adore this series! Each book seems to be sweeter than the last and this one is no exception.
This latest story is all about Connor and Jess and I just love the way it was told…quite different from the other books. It starts in the present and then there is quite a bit of the story that is told in the past – all in relation to the first event in the book. But what’s interesting to note about the flashbacks, if you will, is that some of the events that are mentioned refer to events in previous books, yet Connor and Jess had this secret relationship going on that no one knew about.
Connor has loved Jess a long time and while Jess has loved Connor, her main responsibility has been to her brother, who doesn’t exactly like Connor. Their romance is full of roadblocks and yet Connor refuses to give up, despite having his twin sister set him up on a few blind dates. The heart knows what the heart wants, right? And Connor, good guy that he is, is willing to do just about anything to win Jess’s heart forever.
Filled with her trademark humor, Kristan Higgins also infuses quite the emotional punch at times as well as some tender, heart-warming moments, too. I’ve heard that this is the final book in the series and while I haven’t seen that anywhere in writing, I can see that being the case – we now have seen all the main characters coupled off and we did get updates on everyone that we met along the way in this series. It’s always hard when a series you love comes to an end, but at the same time, it’s better for it to end on a high note than for it to be dragging on and on…right?

I agree, it's always bittersweet when a favorite series winds up. I'm a couple behind in this series and look forward to getting to this book. I'm a fan of KH.
It is sad when a great series ends. I was in denial about Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series for about a year! I've read one book by Kristin Higgins and really enjoyed it. I definitely want to read more.
Loved this one too. It was so… good. Whatever we get from KH it will be good so I am not too worried that this could be the end.
