In the small, affluent town of Fairview, Connecticut everything seems picture perfect.
Until
one night when young Jenny Kramer is attacked at a local party. In the
hours immediately after, she is given a controversial drug to medically
erase her memory of the violent assault. But, in the weeks and months
that follow, as she heals from her physical wounds, and with no factual
recall of the attack, Jenny struggles with her raging emotional memory.
Her father, Tom, becomes obsessed with his inability to find her
attacker and seek justice while her mother, Charlotte, prefers to
pretend this horrific event did not touch her perfect country club
world. As they seek help for their daughter, the fault lines
within their marriage and their close-knit community emerge from the
shadows where they have been hidden for years, and the relentless quest
to find the monster who invaded their town – or perhaps lives among them
– drive this psychological thriller to a shocking and unexpected
conclusion.
My thoughts:It is no surprise that I love a good psychological thriller, but this one…this one was dark, it was twisty and is was good! This was like no book I have ever read before and I’m really glad that it is one of BookSparks #SummerReadingChallenge selections…it deserves all the hype and attention it can get!
I don’t even know how to put into words my thoughts about this book without giving away too much – and believe me when I say, you don’t want anything to be given away about this book! You want to experience it for all that it is. I can say that it is powerful and disturbing at times, but it is so thought provoking, too. And the characters – oh my word! What crazy, twisted characters we meet.
As I kept reading, I found myself questioning what was happening, trying to piece together the night. As the family meets with the therapist, you realize that everyone has issues, but you also realize, as is typical in a small town, that everyone is somehow connected – seven degrees of separation, anyone? So, each time a new “clue” would appear, I thought I had it all figured out, only to be grossly mistaken…this had me on my toes until the very end…and let me tell you, I did not see that ending coming!
This book is full of controversial topics, disturbing scenes, abuse in many forms, but once you start reading it, it’s hard to put down. It’s like it’s own type of drug…you just have to know what’s going to happen next and how it’s all going to play out, and who all the major characters are. Like I said, this book is not like anything I’ve read before and I have a feeling it’s not going to be one I’ll be forgetting anytime soon!

I've read a couple of other reactions to this book and they were mixed. I think for some, this will be too dark. I'm planning on reading it though. Not sure when my reading took such a dark turn, but that seems to be a lot of what I read. Anyway, good to know that this was a thought provoking read for you.
Ohh this is the first time I heard about this book, but it really looks and sounds absolutely amazing. Plus I do like dark and thought provoking books. Thank you for your great review and post.
