My thoughts: This is the third book in Robert Bryndza’s DCI Erika Foster series and I just love it…it’s dark and twisted and I am so glad that I found this author and series…it’s definitely going down as one of my favorite new series this year!
Erika is no longer with the Murder Investigation Team, having been transferred to another team in another city. Her new team, while searching for drugs, have just discovered the skeleton of a missing young child. After basically begging to take on the cold case, Erika is able to have it, and is even reunited with her former teammates.
Erika is her typical self – abrasive and brash. But that’s what I love about her! She is determined to solve this case no matter what, willing to do whatever it takes to do that, go to whatever lengths and means to get whoever is responsible.
I loved that we get to see more of Erika’s sister, Lenka, who we met briefly in the previous book, The Night Stalker, in this book. Some of these interactions between these two were quite cringe-worthy and some were heartwarming. Having two sisters myself, I could totally relate to ups and downs of sisterly love!
The mystery kept me on my toes – the twists and turns had me guessing throughout, and it wasn’t until the very end that I even began to put it all together. I just love this series and I love how complex and layered it all is. I also love how this one set up the next book – yay, that we know there is going to definitely be another book, but now we have to wait until that book comes out…
Audio thoughts:Once again Jan Cramer does a phenomenal job narrating this book and I’m so glad she has continued to narrate this series! I’m a big fan of consistency when it comes to narrators and series. I love the voices that Jan has given to the characters in this series – they are all unique and her pacing is spot on. I hope that for as long as this series goes on, Jan will be the narrator!
