They built a life on lies

Sutton and Ethan Montclair’s idyllic life is not as it
appears. The couple seems made for each other, but the truth is ugly.
Consumed by professional and personal betrayals and financial woes, the
two both love and hate each other. As tensions mount, Sutton disappears,
leaving behind a note saying not to look for her.

Ethan finds
himself the target of vicious gossip as friends, family and the media
speculate on what really happened to Sutton Montclair. As the police
investigate, the lies the couple have been spinning for years quickly
unravel. Is Ethan a killer? Is he being set up? Did Sutton hate him
enough to kill the child she never wanted and then herself? The path to
the answers is full of twists that will leave the reader breathless.

My thoughts:I’m still relatively new to J.T. Ellison’s books, having only read 2 so far prior to this one – another stand-alone like this one (No One Knows) and the latest book in her Taylor Jackson series (Field of Graves). I was fortunate to have won this latest one from the author herself and let me tell you, once I started reading it – I could not stop! This is one addictive read!!!

This domestic thriller is a crazy, crazy ride – I was hooked from page one and found that I couldn’t put it down until I finished reading the book. I had to know what was going on with these characters and what was going to be uncovered next. I will say that while some of the characters are not always likeable, there is something that just pulls you to them – you end up wanting to find redeemable qualities in them.

I loved the way this story is told. The way it all comes together is just so clever. And my favorite part is the unnamed narrator’s chapters – these chapters, very brief that they are, are incredibly chilly and creepy, though quite insightful. While I did figure out the identity of this person quite early in the book, it in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this book – in fact, it fueled my engagement as I tried to figure out why this person was doing all this. And while I was correct with my guess of the person, I did not come up with the reason as to why. Never saw that coming!

This is such a twisted and clever mystery. It’s fast-paced and will keep you guessing as to what is really going on. You will start to question everyone as the story progresses, leaving you scratching your head as you frantically flip the pages til you reach the conclusion, and the short chapters only add to that desperation, helping to build the suspense and adding to the tension. This book will get under your skin until you reach the very end. I loved this book and can’t wait to see what comes next from J.T. Ellison – she is definitely going on my must-read list!!!
