Each year, Sheila over at Book Journey
makes a big deal over what the first book she’ll read will be for the
new year and once again she’s asked us to join her. I have joined in for the last 5
years and it’s always a lot of fun seeing what book everyone selects.
Be sure to stop by Sheila’s post to see the collage she makes of everyone participating!
For
my first book of the year, I am once again going with a book from my
bookshelf – a trend I’ve been following for the past 5 years straight!
My book is the 2nd book in series that I am going to try to finish this year … Nightblind by Ragnar Jonasson. This is part of Ragnar’s Dark Iceland series. I read the first book, Snowblind quite a while ago and really enjoyed it, but never got around to finishing the rest of the series, so I decided this year I am going to do it.
Summary:
Chilling, and complex, Nightblind is an extraordinary thriller from undeniable new talent Ragnar Jonasson.
Ari Thór Arason: a local policeman, whose tumultuous past and
uneasy relationships with the villagers in an idyllically quiet fishing
village in Northern Iceland—where no one locks their doors—continue to
haunt him.
The peace of this close-knit community is shattered by
the murder of a policeman—shot at point-blank range in the dead of night
in a deserted house. With a killer on the loose and the dark arctic
winter closing in, it falls to Ari Thór to piece together a puzzle that
involves tangled local politics, a compromised new mayor, and a
psychiatric ward in Reykjavik where someone is being held against their
will. Then a mysterious young woman moves to the area, on the run from
something she dares not reveal, and it becomes all too clear that tragic
events from the past are weaving a sinister spell that may threaten
them all.
So, what’s your first book of 2020 going to be?
I've got this series on my want to read list! I took a long break from thrillers, but am ready to return. Enjoy.
My First Book
I chose Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid. Thanks for sharing your first read, and Happy New Year
Ah no its not on my bookshelf but I know it is a right choice from yours for you. May it be a thriller that really pushes you to go on and read the rest or most of the rest of the series. A very happy New Year and lots of good books this 2020.
This looks good! I love the Iceland setting and definitely need to add it to my TBR. Enjoy your reading!
