Title: Verity
Author: Colleen Hoover
Published: December 2018, Independently Published
Format: Paperback, 314 pages
Source: Personal copy
Summary:
Lowen Ashleigh is a
struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the
job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author
Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a
successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen
arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s
notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started.
What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an
unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page
after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection
of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides
to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would
devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for
Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit
if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted
Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it
impossible for him to continue to love her.
***Short & Sweet Reviews are
short, quick reviews. These will mainly be used for series books where I
have already done full reviews on some of the earlier books or for
books that I feel will suffice with a quick review. These will not be
used for review requests or blog tours.
My thoughts: This is a book that has been on my tbr for quite a while and I was so glad my IRL book club picked it for our next discussion. It is everything I heard it to be and more…dark, crazy, intense and totally binge-worthy. I read this book in a matter of hours because I could not put it down.
I loved the way this book is structured, alternating between the present day and the chapters of Verity’s book. I was completely captivated by what was going on, trying to put the pieces together and did not see that ending coming at all! This one gets under your skin and plays with your mind, and you quickly realize that things are definitely not as they appear to be. It’s downright addicting and will have you flipping those pages, taking you on quite the emotional journey at the same time. Be prepared to not only be unsettled but also blush a few times.
I’ve come late to the Colleen Hoover game, having only read her more recent books, but man can she write! Eventually I’ll get to the rest of her backlist, but I’m so glad I finally read this one…it was excellent!!!
