Summary:

You just boarded a flight to New York.

There are one hundred and forty-three other passengers onboard.

What you don’t know is that thirty minutes before the flight your pilot’s family was kidnapped.

For his family to live, everyone on your plane must die.

The only way the family will survive is if the pilot follows his orders and crashes the plane.

Enjoy the flight.

My thoughts:

As soon as I heard about this book, I knew it was one I wanted to read…but then I was able to get the audio version and wow…this book is intense, but listening to it just amps the intensity, in my opinion. And as a debut novel, I am adding T.J. Newman to my must-read list right now!

This book is one adrenaline-fueled read that hooked me from the first line, which in and of itself was all kinds of crazy. From there, the intensity starts and it never lets up. It is so well-written and keeps you engaged, going in directions that I never saw coming, which as an avid thriller reader, I so appreciated. This book is full of action and so much happens that there is never a dull moment.

Because the author is a former flight attendant, there is so much authenticity to the details of the flight and the characters – the in-flight procedures, the way flight attendants went about their jobs. These details weren’t glossed over, but handled with care and precision that only comes from someone in the know. And while most of the book is plot driven, we still get a good feel for the characters. Again, this is due to the author’s background, where she is able to allow us to really understand not only who the characters are, but also how they might act in this type of situation.

This book is definitely one to add to your summer reading list, especially if you like edge-of-your-seat thrillers. This one certainly fits that and then some. But it is also more than just a thriller as it brings up some moral questions, which will have you wondering were things will end up. This is the perfect binge-worthy summer read!

Audio thoughts:

This book translates so well onto audio – and the narrator, Steven Weber, did a fantastic job bringing the book to life. His pacing and intonation were spot on and he infused just the right amount of tension and emotion into his voice as needed. This was one audiobook that I just could not put down and I loved every tense minute of it!
