Feature: Literati Book Club

A few months ago, I decided to join @Literati, an online book club that is unlike anything I’ve been part of before. Quite a few of my bookstagram friends were already part of this and I knew how much they enjoyed it, so I finally took the plunge and I’m so glad I did.

This unique book club offers 13 different clubs that you get to choose from and the best part is that each month, you have the ability to switch from club to club depending on what book appeals to you. The books for each club are all selected by Luminaries – award-winning authors, leaders and visionaries who all love books just as much as we do. They love to get involved in the stories they select and have deep and meaningful discussions about them.

There is a Literati app where everything for your club, as well as all the other clubs, can be found at your fingertips. I love that as I am reading, I can add my comments directly into the discussion points that my Luminary has already started for each section of whatever book we are reading for that month and have real-time discussions with members of my group. There is a reading schedule, however you are free to read at your own pace.

I’ve been part of Literati since June and have been with stayed with the same Luminary, Jesmyn Ward, who’s theme is Gathering of Voices and we have read some phenomenal books, books I might not have picked up on my own.

Heavy by Kiese Laymon

Last One Out Shut Off the Lights by Stephanie Soileau

The Removed by Brandon Hobson

And our current pick is Caul Baby by Morgan Jerkins, which I need to start!

Here are just some of the other Book Clubs and their Luminaries. Again, once you join Literati, you are free to jump around from club to club each month based on what book speaks most to you.

  • Fearless with Malala
  • Wild Reads with Cheryl Strayed
  • Audacious Book Club with Rozanne Gay
  • Finding Wonder with Atlas Obscura
  • The Call In with Megan Rapinoe

This is not a static book club. When I joined, they had just added 7 new Luminaries, and since I’ve been a member, they’ve added one more, so I have no fear that there will be more additions in the future. This really is a book club for everyone.

Do you belong to any online book clubs? Have you considered joining Literati? I am so glad I did!
