Summary:

The next electrifying novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author duo behind The Wife Between Us.

Wealthy Washington suburbanites Marissa and Matthew Bishop seem to have it all—until Marissa is unfaithful. Beneath their veneer of perfection is a relationship riven by work and a lack of intimacy. She wants to repair things for the sake of their eight-year-old son and because she loves her husband. Enter Avery Chambers.

Avery is a therapist who lost her professional license. Still, it doesn’t stop her from counseling those in crisis, though they have to adhere to her unorthodox methods. And the Bishops are desperate.

When they glide through Avery’s door and Marissa reveals her infidelity, all three are set on a collision course. Because the biggest secrets in the room are still hidden, and it’s no longer simply a marriage that’s in danger.

My thoughts:

This is the fourth novel by the writing duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and I am absolutely a fan of their work. They have such a knack for writing fun, clever, binge-worthy psychological thrillers.

Give me a book about a couple going to therapy and I’m all in. There is just something so deliciously addicting about being on the outside looking in on a couple’s counseling sessions and when you come to find out that the therapist has lost her license but is still practicing, it just ups the ante. Avery has some unconventional methods to be sure but why would Marissa want to see her, knowing she isn’t licensed?

This book is full of secrets and each and every character has them. It’s the type of book that the more you uncover, the more secrets you find. There were so many directions this story could have taken and yet it went in a way I did not see coming and I loved that! It’s such a layered story full of twists that keeps you hooked from start to finish. And did I mention that none of the characters are trustworthy?

This book was just pure fun. It’s a fast-paced, entertaining and totally binge-worthy read. I love this writing duo and this book just proves that all over again!

Audio thoughts:

Just like with their last book, I decided to listen to this newest release. I think their books naturally lend themselves quite well to audio and the two narrators, Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland, happen to be among my favorite, so that made it an easy choice to go the audio route. They really did quite a good job with the sections they had, making this book come alive, infusing their voices with just the right amount of tension and emotion as needed. I ended up listening to this in one day because I just couldn’t put it down…it’s that good!
