Summary:
When Cora Lansquenet is savagely murdered with a hatchet, the extraordinary remark she made the previous day at her brother Richard’s funeral suddenly takes on a chilling significance. At the reading of Richard’s will, Cora was clearly heard to say, “It’s been hushed up very nicely, hasn’t it.…But he was murdered, wasn’t he?”
In desperation, the family solicitor turns to Hercule Poirot to unravel the mystery.…
My thoughts:
This was the March read for the #ReadChristie2022 and I really enjoyed it. I did read it back in March, even though I am only writing my review now…I’m just a little behind on getting some reviews written and hoping to get caught up soon!
This book is part of the Hercule Poirot series and what is great about this series is that I’m finding you really don’t need to read these books in order, though at some point I would like to start at the beginning and read them straight through. What I love about these books, and of course we find it here in this particular story, is that we are introduced to a lot of characters in the beginning who then become suspects when the murder happens. And try as I might, I never end up figuring out who really is the guilty party before it is revealed. Maybe one day I’ll be able to do it, but she really is the queen of misdirection and always manages to fool me.
I have to admit that I got a little busy and missed a few of the reading prompts for this challenge, so I’ll be doing a little doubling up in the coming months so that I end up finishing all 12 books by the end of the year. Life just go in the way…it happens but I am so enjoying my Christie adventures that I don’t want to give up this reading challenge. Stay tuned to see what book I pick up next!
