Summary:

This summer, meet your neighbors.

The residents of the exclusive cul-de-sac on Alton Road are entangled in a web of secrets and scandal utterly unknown to the outside world, and even to each other.

On the night of the annual Summer block party, there has been a murder.

But, who did it and why takes readers back one year earlier, as rivalries and betrayals unfold—discovering that the real danger lies within their own block and nothing—and no one—is ever as it seems.

My thoughts:

As soon as I heard about this book, I just knew it would be the perfect summer read. It gave me both Desperate Housewives vibes and Big Little Lies vibes and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more!

A juicy, twisty neighborhood drama that kept me entertained and guessing all the way through, I was hooked from the get-go with this one. I loved how we start with the annual cul-de-sac block party where there is a shooting and of course we don’t know who is shot and then we flash back to the year leading up to the fateful day to see what ultimately led to the shooting. As you might guess, just about every character we get to know in this neighborhood has their own secrets and so it keeps things interesting as you try to figure out just what has been going on here.

This story moves pretty quickly and the suspense builds steadily, keeping you on edge as the pieces slowly work themselves together. I really had no idea where this one was heading and that was part of the fun. So many twists come at us, right up until the very end, many that I didn’t see coming at all! And while there were a lot of characters in this book, I think they were all so well developed that I had no problems keeping track of them. They might not have all been likeable characters, but I tend to enjoy that, especially in this type of book!

This is definitely the perfect binge-worthy, entertaining summer read, one that you can fly through in a matter of hours because once you start this one, you aren’t going to want to stop until you finish it!
