Month in Review: September 2023

Hello October – it’s my favorite month! But at the same time, how is it that we only have 3 months left in this year?!? Luckily September was a great month and October is shaping up to be another good one. Plus, I go away at the end of the month for 2 weeks and I cannot wait – 2 weeks of vacation on the beach, yes please! The only stress will be deciding what books to pack!

I didn’t do too well with my September goal of getting back on track with reviews…so I am really going to focus on that before I leave for vacation. Or at least try!

MY TOP 5 OF SEPTEMBER:

***I saw this on a friend’s blog and really liked it, so I’m adding it to my monthly wrap-ups.

  1. Favorite book(s) of September – these books are the ones I absolutely loved and will be recommending to everyone. They will be staying on my shelf and might even be rereads at some point in the future.
    • Reykjavik
    • The River We Remember
    • The Museum of Failures
    • Happiness Falls
    • Kill Show
  2. Biggest Surprise of September: How much I ended up loving Kill Show. This is one of the most unique books I’ve read in a while. This genre-bending novel had me questioning whether what I was reading was real or not the entire time! Go get this one!!! It’s out October 3rd.
  3. Biggest Disappointment of September: I thought I would like This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel more than I did after loving her last book, Darling Rose Gold. Part of that might have been my choice to listen to it…I might have been better off reading the book in print than going the audio route.
  4. Favorite Part of Month – Getting to meet the Prime Minister of Iceland!!! She co-wrote a book with one of my favorite Icelandic authors, Ragnar Jonasson, Reykjavik, and they came to NYC for a book signing. It was such a great event and you can see some photos and read about it here.
  5. 5 Books I’m most looking forward to reading next month:
    • The Leftover Woman by Jean Kwok – I had the opportunity to meet Jean this past Spring and I’m so excited for her latest book. I’ll also be doing an IG LIVE with her on October 13th to talk about the new book, her writing process and a whole lot more! Out 10/10
    • The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson – I am a huge fan of Peter Swanson’s books and I’m very excited for this holiday novella! Out 10/17
    • American Girl by Wendy Walker – I have read, and loved, every book by Wendy Walker and I’m so excited for this new one, which originally was released as on Audio-only last year. I’ll be doing an IG LIVE with Wendy on October 11th to talk about this book, her writing and more. Out 10/17
    • When I’m Dead by Hannah Morrissey – The next book in the Black Harbor series…I love Hannah’s books and cannot wait to start reading this one!  Out 10/31
    • Blood Sisters by Vanessa Lillie – I’ve been a fan of Vanessa’s since her first book and this latest one is more personal to her as it deals with her Native heritage and I cannot wait to start it.   Out 10/31

So tell me, what was your favorite read of the month? What are you looking forward to reading in September?
