Month in Review: June 2024

How is it that half the year is over already? While I have had a decent year of reading, family and life have definitely taken priority and I haven’t been reading as much as I normally do. But I’m totally fine with that. The books will still be there when and if I get back to being the reading machine I once was.

I have quite a few reviews that still need to be done…and I’m hoping to get caught up with those soon. I really do need to get better at doing the reviews as soon as or close to when I read the book.

***I did this last year and am going to continue it again this year, with a few modifications.

  1. Favorite book(s) of June – these books are the ones I absolutely loved and will be recommending to everyone. They will be staying on my shelf and might even be rereads at some point in the future.
    • Nightwatching
    • The Rom-Commers
    • A Talent for Murder
    • A Happier Life
    • All the Colors of the Dark
  2. Biggest Surprise of June: No big surprises this month.
  3. Newly Acquired Books I’m Super Excited About: This month I received quite a few books I cannot wait to read:
    • The Puzzle Box by Danielle Trussoni, out October 8th
    • The Author’s Guide to Murder by Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig & Karen White, out November 5th
    • The Close-Up by Pip Drysdale, out December 3rd
  4. Favorite Part of June – It was a pretty quiet month due to some family stuff going on. But I did have my books to escape to and I am forever grateful that bookmail kept showing up…that helped!
  5. 5 Books I’m most looking forward to reading next month:
    • The Same Bright Stars by Ethan Joella – I’ve been a fan of Ethan Joella’s books since his debut novel, A Little Hope.  Out July 2nd.
    • The God of Woods by Liz Moore – I have been waiting for another book by Liz Moore ever since reading, and loving, Long Bright River!!! Out July 2nd.
    • All This and More by Peng Shepherd – I loved Peng Shepherd’s last book, The Cartographer, and am excited to see what this one is all about. It’s being billed as a choose-your-own adventure type of read and I’m very curious to see how it reads. Out July 9th.
    • Shades of Mercy by Bruce Borgos – This is the second book in his Porter Beck series, and I just read the first book, The Bitter Past, and really enjoyed it! Out July 16th.
    • The Wilds by Sarah Pearse– This is the third book in her Detective Elin Warner series, and I love how atmospheric these books are! Out July 16th.
