Month in Review: August 2024

August was a month of adjustments as we brought home 2 new puppies! Welcome chaos!!! It’s been fun but hectic and I have never been so tired in my life! The puppies are super cute but can also be demons…but we love them anyway. Our older dog isn’t quite a fan just yet…hopefully once the puppies are a bit bigger, she will be more amenable to them! Needless to say, my reading took a hit, but I’m ok with that.

I did manage to get caught up on some older reviews, which is good and I have been chipping away on getting my Goodreads up-to-date. That is an on-going project that hopefully will be caught up soon.

MY TOP 5 OF August:

***I did this last year and am going to continue it again this year, with a few modifications.

  1. Favorite book(s) of August – these books are the ones I absolutely loved and will be recommending to everyone. They will be staying on my shelf and might even be rereads at some point in the future.
    • The Chamber
    • Brooklyn
    • Dear Hanna
    • Someone’s in the Attic
    • This Is Why We Lied
  2. Biggest Surprise of August: There really weren’t any surprises this month!
  3. Newly Acquired Books I’m Super Excited About: This month I received quite a few books I cannot wait to read:
    • So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison, out September 10th
    • Murder Town by Shelley Burr, out November 5th
    • The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha, out January 21st
  4. Favorite Part of August – I attended my 2nd Bouchercon conference and had such a great time! This time it was in Nashville. The last time I attended this conference was in 2019. Seeing so many author friends, meeting new ones, meeting some of the publicists I work with – this is why I love attending these conferences and cannot wait for the next one! Stay tuned for a Bouchercon wrap-up post.
  5. 5 Books I’m most looking forward to reading next month:
    • The Examiner by Janice Hallett – I am a huge fan of Hallett’s books and am super excited about this one. I love the unique formatting of her books and expect this one to be much the same! Out September 10th.
    • Death at the Sanatorium by Ragnar Jonasson – A new stand-alone from Jonasson. I’ve read every single one of his books and loved them! Out September 10th.
    • So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison – I recently discovered this author and am eager to give her newest book a go! Out September 10th.
    • The Night We Lost Him by Laura Dave – Loved Dave’s last book and have been eager for a new one!  Out September 17th.
    • The Hitchcock Hotel by Stephanie Wrobel– Heard good things about this one and am eager to start this one! Out September 24th.

So tell me, what was your favorite read of the month? What are you looking forward to reading in the next month?
