For the month of August, I will be participating in “Conquering the Book Stacks” – where I plan to read my own books that have been sitting on my bookshelf and try really hard not to buy any new ones. This all came about from a discussion on twitter between a bunch of avid book readers who seem to constantly have too many books to read and not enough time to read them.
There are a bunch of us doing this and we will be tweeting with the hashtag #CTBS.
So, what will I be reading during this event? My list is a combination of books for blog tours, books for book clubs, a library book or two (a have a few on hold and am just waiting for them to come in); and a bunch of books that have been sitting on my shelf – but I’ve added a challenge to this. The books I plan on reading from my bookshelf will be ones that have been sitting on my shelves since before the beginning of this year.
Books I need to read for reviews, book clubs or from the library:
- The Tudor Conspiracy by CW Gortner – started, need to finish
- Three Little Words by Susan Mallery
- Big Sky Wedding by Linda Lael Miller
- The Other Woman by Hank Phillippi Ryan
- The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro
- The Painted Girls by Cathy Marie Buchanan – started, need to finish
- The Comfort of Lies by Randy Susan Meyers
- Hunting Eve by Iris Johansen
- Vanish by Tess Gerritsen
Books that have been sitting on my shelf that I hope to read:
- Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen
- Persuasion by Jane Austen
- Cloaked in Malice by Annette Blair
- A Fitting End by Melissa Bourbon
- The Deception of the Emerald Ring by Lauren Willig
- The Mephisto Club by Tess Gerritsen
It’s quite a random list, but all the books I plan to read from my shelves will help me with other reading challenges I’m participating in.
So, are you participating in #ctbs? Let me know!
I was totally intending on doing something similar to this. I have way too many books and swore that I wasn't going to buy any new books until my birthday in November so I could make some headway on my pile of books I haven't read. But as always, I was tempted by shiny new books, so have already failed. Maybe you will have more luck. Good Luck,

PS: The Mephisto Club is super good. I love Gerritsen's books. I have them all on my shelf. Hope you enjoy it.
I think a month is going to be hard enough to resist buying books, but I'm going to do my best to stick to it…if that's successful, maybe I'll try another month!
I love Tess Gerritsen's books and am trying to catch up on the series. Do you watch the tv show?
I really should participate in something like this. Thing is that when I am at work I know what my maximum reading time is and what fits which does not make me feel like I can conquer the stack.
Good luck with your stack though, there are some great looking reads on that list!
What's nice about this is that you set your own goals…even if you just read two or three of your own books, that still weeds down the stack!
