Summary:
Intrigue, riches, and romance abound in this thrilling sequel to the New York Times best-selling The Inheritance Games.
The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions – including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture – by any means necessary.
With nonstop action, aspirational jet-setting, Knives Out-like family intrigue, swoon-worthy romance, and billions of dollars hanging in the balance, The Hawthorne Legacy will thrill Jennifer Lynn Barnes fans and new listeners alike.
My thoughts:
After really enjoying The Inheritance Games, I knew I had to continue on with the series. Even though I am totally late to this series, I have to say, I am just loving these books and I hope to find time to get to the third book soon – at least before the fourth one comes out!
I think what I love most about this series is the Knives Out vibe that it has, while still being a YA story. I really do feel that this is a series that needs to be read in order – this book builds on what happened in the last book and I think to fully appreciate all that is happening, it’s best to read all the books.
This second one is all about building the relationships with the people that are now part of Avery’s new world. There are plenty of puzzles to solve again, a mansion filled with hidden tunnels that just sounds so fun and of course a love triangle. I am loving getting to know these characters and feel that with each book we learn just a little more about each one of them.
This is the perfect series to binge – the books aren’t very long and you just cannot help but fly through them. And once again we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end…I definitely need to pick up the next book soon!
Audio thoughts:
This was a fun book to listen to and I thought Christine Moreau did a great job with this narration. I thought she did a great job with the first book and loved the consistency in the second with the voices. I’m a big fan of having the same narrator with series whenever it makes sense, and it definitely does here.
