My thoughts:
Alex Lake has become one of my must-read authors…I have read all the books this author has written and will continue to do so as I have not been disappointed as of yet. I find that these books are addicting, thrilling and keep me on the edge of my seat, and this latest one was no exception!
Give me all the books about serial killers! I just cannot get enough of them – not sure what that says about me, but whatever!!! This one was so twisted and clever and it kept me glued to the story. I loved the way the story moves back and forth from the present to the past, making you even more invested in the story. The twists really kept me guessing and it wasn’t until about three quarters of the way through that I started to piece this one together…but that in no way detracted from my enjoyment of this one. In fact, it only heightened things as I needed to see how it would all play out!
The pacing of this book is pitch perfect and the short chapters and multiple narrators really make this quite the addictive read. It’s tense and the writing has a way of getting under your skin – so many red herrings that are brilliantly used! Alex Lake really is quite the master at this genre and I cannot wait to see what is next from this talented writer!
Audio thoughts:
Because this is a backlist book and I am trying to get ahead, I decided to listen to this one when I saw it available at the library. These are the types of books I love on audio – they just translate so well and keep me wanting to not put them down and that is exactly what happened here. I ended up listening to this one in just a matter of hours. It was narrated by two different narrators, Chloe Massey and Fiona Boylan, and they really did a great job bringing this one to life. Their pacing was spot on and they both were able to infuse just the right amount of tension and suspense into their voices as needed.
