Summary:
The caretaker at an isolated mountain hotel finds herself fighting for her life—and sanity—in this twisty, addictive thriller.
Kerry’s life is in shambles: Her husband has left her, her drinking habit has officially become a problem, and though the deadline for her big book deal—the one that was supposed to change everything—is looming, she can’t write a word. When she sees an ad for a caretaker position at a revitalized roadside motel in the Catskills, she jumps at the chance. It’s the perfect getaway to finish her book and start fresh.
But as she hunkers down in a blizzard, she spots something through the window: a pale arm peeking out from a heap of snow. Trapped in the mountains and alone with a dead, frozen body, Kerry must keep her head and make it out before the killer comes for her too. But is the deadly game of cat-and-mouse all in her mind? The body count begs to differ…
My thoughts:
Somehow this is the first book I’ve read by Leah Konen, but I can tell you based on how much I loved this one, it will definitely not be my last!
I absolutely love thrillers set in isolated locations, and this one completely knocked it out of the park! It was so creepy and atmospheric, and I loved how both the setting and weather played such an integral part in the story.
This is the type of book where you don’t necessarily love all the characters, but you also can’t walk away from them. You need to find out what really happened – at least I did! And with chapters that ending in cliffhangers, it was so easy to keep going with this one!
This book is jam-packed with unexpected twists and turns that make for such an unsettling read. And I loved the conclusion…I totally did not see that coming! This was such a great read and I highly recommend picking it up if you haven’t done so already!
Audio thoughts:
This was amazing on audio! The three narrators, Karissa Vacker, Erin Bennett and Julie Webster, are some of my favorite narrators and they really did a fantastic job bringing this book to life!
