Summary:

They say the camera never lies.
But on this show, you can’t trust anything you see.

Stranded in the Welsh mountains, seven reality show contestants have no idea what they’ve signed up for.

Each of these strangers has a secret. If another player can guess the truth, they won’t just be eliminated – they’ll be exposed live on air. The stakes are higher than they’d ever imagined, and they’re trapped.

The disappearance of a contestant wasn’t supposed to be part of the drama. Detective Ffion Morgan has to put aside what she’s watched on screen, and find out who these people really are – knowing she can’t trust any of them.

And when a murderer strikes, Ffion knows every one of her suspects has an alibi . . . and a secret worth killing for.

My thoughts:

This is the 2nd book in Clare Mackintosh’s DC Morgan series and I am very much enjoying it so far. I was a little worried that this particular installment involved a reality TV show as I am not really a fan of it, so I did put off reading it, but I needed have worried…I was more interested in the police procedural aspect of the story as well as the continued character development and in that regard, I loved it! Mackintosh does such a great job focusing on the characters, particularly our main characters, as well as giving us a good crime story.

This is a fast-paced, atmospheric read and nothing is as it appears to be, nor is anyone who they say they are. It was an engaging mystery that kept me guessing the entire time. And I loved how much behind the scenes we got into the reality tv production – just how much manipulation really takes place versus how much is actually true.

I ended up enjoying this one very much and am very excited to see what direction the series goes in the next book…I am quite eager to get my hands on that book when it comes out here in the states in September!

Books in this series:

  1. The Last Party
  2. A Game of Lies
