Cross Down by James Patterson, Brendan DuBois #bookreview #series

I purchased this book for my own personal collection.

Publisher: Little, Brown and Company

Summary:

Alex Cross is gravely injured. Only his partner and friend John Sampson can keep him safe . . . and get justice.

For the first time, John Sampson is on his own.

The brilliant crime-solving duo of Washington, DC’s, Metro PD and the FBI has a proven Detective Alex Cross makes his own rules. Detective John Sampson enforces them.

When military-style attacks erupt, brutally sidelining Cross, Sampson is sent reeling.  The patterns are too random —Sampson’s friend, his partner, his  brother —have told him.  Don’t trust anyone.

As a shadow force advances on the nation’s capital, Sampson alone must protect the Cross family, his own young daughter, and every American, including the president.

My thoughts:

I love that this series is still going strong and while I am just a bit behind, I am determined to get back on track this year. This is a series that both my dad and I read, so one of us buys the book and then passes it on to the other. If I’m the one buying the book, I just send it to him because chances are he’s going to read it before me, especially right now.

There aren’t too many books in this series that have a co-author, but considering this one is mostly from Sampson’s point of view it makes sense. While I didn’t love seeing our beloved Alex Cross being so gravely injured, it was a nice change of pace to see Sampson take the lead. What occurs screams of what we experienced a few years ago, and while this is all fictional, with literary license being taken, it is still scary to think this could happen again.

The book moves at break-neck speed and the short chapters just beg you to keep reading, especially when some end in mini-cliffhangers. The twists and turns keep you on your toes and it all comes together in ways I sure didn’t expect.

I do love this series and I wonder just how long it will continue?
